2 Chronicles 2:5 NLT

Scripture: The temple I am going to build will be great, because our God is greater than all other gods.

Observation:

Solomon has given orders to build a temple for the Name of the Lord and a royal palace for himself.

He conscripts the aliens in the land as labour, and contracts with Hiram the king of Tyre to provide the cedar logs. The contract sets a high standard for his skilled men to provide cedar, pine and algum logs.

The temple is to be large and magnificent because Solomon’s God is great, greater than all other gods.

Solomon’s perspective of God drives what he does, and how he does it, to reflect the magnificence and greatness of his God. He brings together the best skills and resources to make it happen, first for the temple and then for his palace.

Application:

It’s an interesting concept to see my work ethic and workmanship as a reflection of who I see God as. God deserves my very best. My life should reflect His greatness. Does it?

Everything I do should be done with excellence. That means I should focus on those things for which I am gifted, working with others in their giftings. And I need to give those things the time it takes to do the work well.

My priority should be His Kingdom, my palace thereafter. Jesus encourages us to “seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need”. - Matthew 6:33

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for the gifts and abilities you have given. Help me to know what I can do well and what you have given me to do, and to focus my time and best energies on those things. May my life reflect your greatness, your magnificence, and bring you glory.
